We did our alphabet now we need to do our numbers. Our next round of story times are dealing with counting! Our books this week were: How Do Dinosaurs Count To Ten, One Duck Stuck, and 5 Little Ducks.

Our songs this were the rhyme for Five Little Ducks and the Songs by Jim Gill, Jumping and Counting:

Five Little Ducks

Five little ducks
Went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack, quack.”
But only four little ducks came back.

Four little ducks
Went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack, quack.”
But only three little ducks came back.

Three little ducks
Went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack, quack.”
But only two little ducks came back.
Two little ducks
Went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack, quack.”
But only one little duck came back.

One little duck
Went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack, quack.”
But none of the five little ducks came back.

Sad mother duck
Went out one day
Over the hill and far away
The sad mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack.”
And all of the five little ducks came back.

After reading our books and singing our songs I opened play dough for all the kids in story time. Each child got to pick their color. Once we played with our play dough for a few minutes I had them practice writing numbers in it. You can practice writing it in the play dough or you could have them form the number shape or even use cookie cutters for the numbers.

Our craft this week was a dinosaur hand print. We were using our hands all story time to help us count so we used them to create a craft. Paint the hands in washable paint. Paint the palm, pinkie, and thumb. Press it onto the paper and remove slowly. Use a marker or crayon to create horns, spikes, or any other features you want. Make dots with sequence, pom poms, or buttons, and googly eyes. All of the decorations will stick int he wet paint so glue is not necessary.
