Bang

Bang

This Week: Super Books! Some of our favorite stories!

What We Read:

Bang

Bang by Leo Timmers

Possibly my favorite picture book of all time! This almost wordless picture book is one of the most colorful, funny, energetic stories I’ve ever read. When a a distracted deer crashes into a trash can, he starts a chain reaction of crashes that leads to absolute mayhem. The animals and their cars, clothes, and accessories are all different shades of the same color. The alligator and his car are green, the giraffe and her car are orange, and so on.

I can’t recommend this book enough! The kids were engaged throughout the story, and they liked predicting what would happen next. They enjoyed yelling, “BANG!” along with me as I read. There’s a fold-out page spread towards the end that they thought was amazing. This is a great read!

What We Said:

“My Hands”

“Touch Your Nose”

What We Did:

We played the hula hoop game from last week since it was such a big hit. We put the hula hoops on the ground, I started the music and told them to either move around the room like different animals (fly like a bird, swim like a shark, etc.) or dance around the room. When I stopped the music, everyone found a hula hoop to jump inside of. When I started the music again, I removed a hula hoop. We repeated this until there were only two hula hoops left. They immediately wanted to play it again!

What We Made:

Since Bang features pages and pages of bright, bold colors, we painted with lots of different colors today. I let the kids paint whatever they wanted. Some made pictures, some experimented with mixing colors, and some made bright patches of the different colors, like a mosaic.

Next Week: No storytime in August!

We’ll be taking the month of August off to get ready for the start of the school year. We’ll return in September with a brand new name: MAPS: Movement, Art, Play, and STEM. See you then!
