Since we’ll be taking a break from MAPS in May, this month I’ll be posting weekly about some of our favorite books and activities!
Today, I wanted to share an art project that has been very popular at MAPS.
Tape resist art is not only fun and easy, it gives kids a chance to paint however they want, without staying in lines or using only certain colors. They can paint all over the picture and mix every color of paint they want, and they still end up with a very cool end product.
Tape resist art requires very few supplies. Painter’s tape is best, and we use canvas since the tape peels off better than it does on regular paper. Just use the tape to create either a picture or an abstract design. Let the kids paint over the whole canvas, tape and all, and then peel off the tape once the paint has dried. You’ll be left with a super colorful and unique work of art!
