Since we’ll be taking a break from MAPS in May, this month I’ll be posting weekly about some of our favorite books and activities!
One of my favorite picture books of all time is Bang by Leo Timmers. I’ve written about it on this blog before, and it’s a book I return to again and again for storytime and outreach programs. It’s a very nearly wordless picture book with beautiful, colorful illustrations that bring the story to life. A series of animals driving cars become distracted and bump into each other, eventually forming a line of cars so long the page must be folded out to see them all.
Bang is a great book for storytime because it lets the kids interpret the illustrations, draw conclusions about what is happening, and predict what will happen next. Using the pictures, they piece together the story all by themselves. It’s full of madcap action and humor. It’s a must read!
