Since we’ll be taking a break from MAPS in May, this month I’ll be posting weekly about some of our favorite books and activities!
One of my favorite play recipes for storytime and outreach programs is flubber. There’s lots of flubber recipes floating around the internet, but my favorite is the recipe from Live Craft Eat. The combination of the cold water and the warm water seems to really help.
One of the great things about flubber is its versatility. It’s fun to play with all on its own, and it gives kids a chance to explore its unique texture and elasticity. You can also transform it into a dramatic play activity by adding toy animals or plastic counters. The kids have a blast creating lakes, mountains, deserts, and swamps, and they come up with great stories to go along with their creations.
Because flubber keeps an imprint of what you put on top of it, you can also make fossils and animal tracks. It’s great fun to play with!
